Abstract
Figuring out what kind of pets Pickapet will have is to answer this question : What kinds of pets are there? Of course, it's not that simple. When we ask this question, we are really asking : In terms of design, what's the difference between one pet and another. This brainstorm will help us determine exactly this about the pets in PickaPet.
Summary of a Generic Pet
Pets will have things in common. These are things that must exist for it to be a pet.
Domestic vs. Wild Pets.
This created a difference between pets that must be adopted vs. those that must be "tamed". This categorization does not seem to include the dragon, which must be found and "hatched". It is nether a common domesticated pet, nor is it a wild pet that must be tamed. For now, I've included it under "Special". When we figure out what kinds of pets these are, please change the category.
List of Domestic Pets
This is probably not the right spot for this comment :Pets seem like they'll have 2 distinct sets of characteristics.
Characterists that have them interact with their owner
Like their basic needs such as the need for food
Characteristics that have them interact with the world (not sure which they are).
Ok, we'll fill this in when we brainstorm the world, however, clearly some should be ability keys. For example, one pet can jump, thus allowing the player (and his/her pets) access to areas that must be accessed by jumping over an obstacle. —hartnell
Do all pets have to be "cute"?
No, they don't all have to be cute, I wouldn't say a dragon is necessarily cute, but its cool.
Well, if this a game for "everybody" pets will naturally be divided into boy/girl pets. For example, a dragon can fly, participate in the arena, and breathes fire. (Cool! so a "boy" pet.) Long haired horses are very pretty, their hair can be styled, and can be used to ride around the world ("girl" pet.).
